The FG without fanfare approved two Sudanese airlines - Badr Airlines and Tarco Airways to operate into Kano.

The two airlines shall each be operating two flights weekly from Khartoum, Sudan to Kano.

INEC appoints Amina Zakari as head of collation centre for elections

Amina Zakari, a national commissioner at the Independent and National Electoral Commission (INEC), has been appointed to head the collation centre of the elections.

Zakari was appointed to head the committee on collation centre, one of the two committees for the election which the commission inaugurated on Thursday in Abuja.

Speaking during the inauguration, Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, said the committee shall be responsible for the national collation centre – the International Conference Centre – from where results of the Presidential election will be announced.

“It will serve as the secretariat for collation of results and venue for briefing of international observers and the media,” he said.

WHO IS ZAKARI?

The national commissioner was once appointed acting chairman of INEC.

She had been at the commission’s department of health and welfare after being redeployed as the head of electoral operations and logistics.

Her redeployment took place after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accused her of working for President Muhammadu Buhari and demanded that she be moved.

Kola Ologbondiyan, spokesman of the PDP, had said in a statement: “While Prof. Mahmood Yakubu can no longer be trusted to conduct the 2019 general election, it is public knowledge that Mrs Amina Zakari, the INEC Director in charge of Operations and ICT, is a direct blood relation of Mr President and as such, we believe that she cannot be an impartial arbiter in an election involving her uncle.”

The party had also told the commission not to “bow to pressure” and return Zakari to her former position.The second committee, on electoral logistics, is chaired by Ahmed Mu’azu, national commissioner.

It includes key government institutions and security agencies whose roles according to the chairman are defined in the electoral act.

Biafra: Ohanaeze Replies Nnamdi Kanu Over 2019 Elections Threat

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council has said the re-election of some governors in the South-East during the 2019 elections will bring peace to the region.

Ohanaeze’s comment was in a reaction the threat by the leader of the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu over the re-election of some governors in the region.

Kanu had threatened that Igboland will “burn” if governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), David Umahi (Ebonyi) and Ifyeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) are re-elected next year.

However, a statement by the Ohanaeze youths after their meeting over the weekend in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, faulted Kanu’s threat.

“Ohanaeze Youths respect and appreciate all views, opinions and comments of individuals or groups on any issue, but Kanu did not get it right as every Southeast governor seeking reelection mean well for Ndigbo and will be reelected in 2019 as we insist that Ugwuanyi, Umahi and Ikpeazu will win in their states,” the statement added.

“No part of Igbo land will burn if the governors win, as we will ensure that we will continue to enjoy peace and positive economic activities in Abia or any part of Southeast before, during and after 2019 elections.

“We urge the Southeast governors to keep their promises by ensuring that the palace of Igwe Israel Kanu, in Umuahia and the roads leading to the palace should rehabilitated.

“We are aware that the governors’ promises to ensure the monarch returns to his palace this festive seasons are on top gear and this will help to calm Kanu’s nerves.”

Self-acclaimed leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, says Abia state, southern Nigeria, will “burn” if Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is re-elected.

Ikpeazu, Abia governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is seeking re-election after coming into power in 2015.

Speaking on the forthcoming governorship election in the state, during a live broadcast on radio Biafra on Saturday, Kanu, who is from Abia state, wondered why the residents of the state will vote again after the last operation python dance carried out by the Nigeria Army in the southeast region.

His words: “I don’t understand people, after operation python dance I, II, III, you people still want to vote in Abia state.

“One thing I know is Okezie Ikpeazu will not go back. We will stop him.

“If Okezie Ikpeazu goes back to Abia state government house, Abia state will burn because he is a descendant of the Hausa Fulani.”

The IPOB leader resurfaced in Jerusalem, Israel, October 19 this year after the military invasion of his community in Abia state in 2017.

Since the attack, the whereabouts of Eze Israel Kanu, the father of the secessionist leader and also the traditional leader of  Afaraukwu-Ibeku community in Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state, has not been known.

Kanu is leading a group seeking secession from Nigeria. The group has since been proscribed by the Nigerian Government.

He said that both parties had reached partial agreement which gave relief and hope to thousands of Nigerian students, only for our hopes to be dashed yesterday by ASUU leader who said that his team may not honour any invitation from FG.
